HAVE YOUR PET BATHED & GROOMED REGULARLY!
It's a fact: ALL DOGS NEED GROOMING.
Depending on the breed, some require professional grooming
while others need only a bath and brushout. Keeping your dog on a
regular grooming schedule will reduce shedding, keep skin and coat
healthy, and help prevent or detect health problems such as
growths or skin infections. Your pet will be happier because he will
be clean, comfortable, and more pleasant to be around!
Here are some guidelines for your dog's grooming needs:
Brushout- 3 to 4 times a week. Brushing helps remove pests, burrs,
& tangles, and distributes oils that keep skin & coat healthy. Medium-
and long-coated breeds will develop mats if not brushed regularly.
Severely matted dogs must be shaved down and their coats regrown.
Better to be proactive and maintain the coat year round.
Ear cleaning- weekly. Odor or discharge from the ears may indicate
an infection. If you notice these signs, CONSULT YOUR VET.
Nail trim- monthly. Overgrown nails make walking difficult and may
lead to deformed feet.
Bath- every 4 to 6 weeks (more often in summer, less often in winter).
Cut- every 6 weeks for long-coated breeds.

CARA (Community Animal Rescue & Adoption)
is a nonprofit NO-KILL animal rescue group located at
960 North Flag Chapel Road in Jackson, providing food, shelter,
and care for hundreds of abused, unwanted, and stray animals.
On average there are 300 dogs and 80 cats
being housed at the shelter.
CARA is entirely dependent on private donations from individuals,
businesses, and fundraising events. They receive no funds from
the city, county, state, or federal government.
